We Are What We Eat

I was reading a very interesting article that was talking about how important it is to look at what we eat.

Our health is the refelxion of what we have been putting in to our body for the past years, or pretty much since we were in our mom’s wombs. It is so sad to see how many pregnant women don’t realize that and keep on eating empty food (meaning food with a very low nutritional value), smoking, drinking and eating tons of sugars.

We have to wake up and start approaching nutritional therapy, and finding disease prevention and cures in food. The body knows how to heal itself if we give it the right ingredients for it to be strong and full of defenses.

I was really surprised while reading in that article on how a handful of cashews is equivalent a one dosis of Prozac, which means that if the person has depression tendencies, food has the right ingredients to help you overcome those hard times. Because let’s face it, we have all had the blues; We go through so many things, and it would be impossible to keep the same mood at all times.

I was also impressesd by reading on all the impressive benefits that Niacin (vitamin B3) has on the body. Niacin is involved in over 50 metabolic processes that are meant to turn carbohydrates into energy. Besides providing energy to the cells in the entire body, niacin is also responsible for the integrity of the cells. Some of the processes niacin participates in:

  • Antioxidant effect
  • Blood sugar control
  • Decrease of cholesterol levels
  • Detoxification
  • Production of adrenal hormones
  • Production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach
  • Production of sex hormones

Vitamin B3 will also turn fat into energy, as it is also involved in fat metabolism.

Wow! I think that is awesome. I also read on the study that a patient who very depressed was treated with Niacin, and soon her attitude changed and improved. But the doctor told her family that he didn’t know how the Niacin would affect her body, so her family stopped the treatment, and soon the patient became highly drepressed again.

It’s amazing to see that people are more concerned about the possible side effects that vitamins can cause on their bodies rather than the negative impact of things like: alcohol, drugs, smoking and regular medications cause. This is just impossible to believe. Did you know that around 100,000 Americans die every year from prescription drugs?

I really would love for you to increase the consumption of superfoods.

What does “Superfood” mean?

Superfoods are nutrient-rich foods that offer us many benefits at the same time, so in effect, you get more nutrition from eating less. Look at your lunch or dinner and you’re probably hard pressed to find even a single superfood in it. Instead it’s probably chockfull of cholesterol laden junk food that can do wonders to your waistline (increase it) and damage your heart and arteries irrevocably.
