Three years ago I ran my first Marathon.
It took a full year for me to train and be ready for it. During that journey I was able to discover many things about myself that I never realized I was capable of doing. I realized how strong my perseverance, endurance and my determination was. Mile after mile, week after week of extensive training and body aches, you build your spirit and your soul and take them to places that you never thought you would go. Marathon training is something that every person should do in their lives. It depends on only you; nobody will make it happen but you.
When the event was approaching, many thoughts go through your head: Will I be able to do it? Will I be able to finish? What if… this or that…? But all of that is because of a natural anxiety that you feel after such a long commitment and the fear that on the race day you’ll wake up sick, or that you’ll get injured during the event; you will never know what every mile brings you. It’s a journey full of surprises.
That’s why I always compare the Marathon training with life. You wake up every day, but not every day you feel motivated to do it, every day the road is there waiting for you, but not every day you feel ready for the ride. Every day you find a new obstacle but it is your determination that helps you accomplish your daily tasks and overcome adversity.
As a business owner I find running very comparable to running my company. Sometimes you feel tired, and you want to quit, but it is that determination that made you sign for that race, the hard pounding of your heart and that blood rushing through your veins that tells you that the end of race is almost there and that you just need to push a little harder to get there, remembering that there is no success if you don’t push hard and make sacrifices.
